So What Is Crossfit?

Hello and welcome to CrossFit For Glory’s first ever blog post. Today, we’re going to learn about this stuff called CrossFit – what it is, why we do it, and who it is for.
What:
Simply put, CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that combines everyday (think functional) movements coupled with high intensity to create workouts that are always different. So what is functional? Are you thinking of balancing on big rubber balls while juggling two-hundred pound dumbbells?? NO! What we mean by functional is that these movements are ones that we perform every day. Are you sitting down in front of a computer reading this right now? Ok good, now stand up. Now, sit back down. Congratulations, you’ve just performed the most fundamental movement a human being can perform – a squat! During the day, do you find yourself picking up kids/keys/boxes off the ground, placing something in an overhead cupboard, climbing stairs or even over a wall, or carrying groceries? These are all examples of fundamental movements. We just call them by other names at the gym: deadlifts, overhead presses, lunges, and pull-ups. As for the “high intensity” part…what does that mean? Man, sounds like a lot of sweat and heavy breathing. Calm down, the most important, and hidden, word is ‘relative.’ You will perform at an intensity that is high relative to YOU…not the person next to you. Lastly, the “always different” part means that your workout will never be the same. Each day will present a fresh new challenge.

Why:
We are a “results based” facility. If you find that you’ve hit a plateau in your current fitness level or are just tired of your regular old routine, then CrossFit is the answer! We want you to get healthy and fit, all while having fun amongst others with similar goals. We do this by striving to improve in ten areas of fitness each time we walk into the gym. They are: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. The goal of our programming is simple and the same for everyone: to get you into the best shape of your life.

Who:
CrossFit is for moms on the home front, athletes on the sideline, soldiers on the front lines of battle, my grandma walking her dog, and everyone in between. In short, CrossFit is for everyone! No matter the demands of your life, our workouts will put you in the best shape to tackle them like you never have before. Our programming is infinitely scalable and we will adjust your workouts based upon your specific needs and fitness level. Even if you have never worked out a day in your life, we have just what you need…YES, I’m talking to you! Best of all, you will be part of a community of like minded individuals who are concerned with being as healthy and fit as they can be. We will know your name, cheer you on through your workouts, and even provide a bit of friendly competition if you want it!
