What brought you to CFG?
I work in sales and the last quarter of every year makes up about 35% of my business. This is a stressful time to say the least! Starting every September the stress would start getting to me and my schedule got tighter and tighter. So instead of eating anything remotely healthy, I would just hit a drive-thru or a convenient store for whatever sugary snack they had to offer. Needless to say, these 3-4 months wreaked havoc on my health. The fall of 2015 was no different, except this time it flowed over into January. One day I was sitting on my couch and literally pulled a muscle in my back will eating ice cream out of the container. At that point, I was ready for a change. My wife and I had driven by the CFG many times and thought nothing of it. We were tired of the same ordinary workouts we had been doing (mostly running). So we walked in and gave it try. We have been at CFG for just over 1 year and just competed in our 1st Open.
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
My first impression of the gym was ok, I really don’t see anything very different from other gyms until I went through the Foundations course. At the end of our first session, Josh gave us a 6 minute workout of something like 5 pu’s, 10 airsquats and 15 sit ups. Two minutes in, I almost died and after the workout I looked at my wife and said what have we gotten ourselves into. What I realized, several months of soreness and wheel barrow full of Aleve later, is we joined an awesome Crossfit community. Everyone in the gym from the coaches to someone you just met that day is encouraging you every step of the way. I am officially addicted to Crossfit!
What are you most proud of? What have you achieved?
I’m most proud of how consistent Melissa and I are going to the box every week and how much we miss it when we are unable to go. I never get tired of the workouts and really never dread going to the box. So this fall as I was entering my stress season, I actually lost weight and ate healthy for the first time in 5 years. I’m very proud of this achievement and it’s because of CFG.
What’s your next goal to hit?
My next goal is to punish my weaknesses! This is the first Open I’ve competed in and my weaknesses were exposed big time. I really have to work on all of the gymnastic movements for the upcoming year to become more proficient and efficient so next year when they come up I won’t get killed.
What’s your favorite CFG memory?
My favorite CFG memory is any time my wife comes running over to me with her phone and says, “Look, look, I’m in 1st on the Leaderboard!” This usually last until all the scores are in from the class she just attended or the 5:00 and 7:00 class participates. Then it is ‘frown town.’ Her excitement and enthusiasm it what makes me smile and proud she’s my wife.
