31 Heroes Recap and Nutrition Advice…8/6/13

This past Saturday, a number of us participated in a WOD known as “31 Heroes.” As with all the CrossFit Hero WODs, this one was done in honor of fallen soldiers. From the 31Heroes site: “The 31Heroes Project was conceived in response to the downing of Extortion 17, a Chinook military helicopter, in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011 killing 30 military service members as well as one military working dog. Many of the fallen were Special Operators from the Navy’s SEAL community.”
We view these workouts as but a small sacrifice of ourselves that we do to honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Saturday was no different.
Eleven two-person teams, and one lonely individual (yours truly), completed nearly 50(!) rounds of the grueling 31min workout. It was hot, it was tough, but the sense of pride we all felt at the end was palpable. It takes a certain breed of individual to put yourself through any of the WODs we do, but it takes an even bigger shovel to dig down way deep during something like Saturday’s workout.
To all the participants: Thank you. Your drive and determination are what make my “job” the best in the world. I could not be more proud to be your coach.
To all our military families: Thank you for all that you do. Our appreciation and support for you at CrossFit For Glory will never waiver. Ever.
